Pictures of Interior Alaska
from Anchorage to Fairbanks

July 12, 2010

Jasmine takes a picture of her rainbow drawing.

Robin brings a handful of grass along for the ride.

New signs!

We're on highway 1. The Glenn Highway. At the Wasilla/Palmer junction we're on the Parks highway. Although the mileage already starts counting in Anchorage.

The Talkeetna mountains are ahead of us. We're on the shoulder of the highway. The bicycle path has stopped for a little while.

A piece of Alaska.

Crossing the Knik river

Fairbanks 319 miles. We're already feeling withdrawal symptoms. It looked like such a long journey when we started out last year. Are we really almost there?

This one is for you Bentley!

The puppies are so lovable!

You better watch it!

We've found our bath for in the cabin...

All aboard!

Brooom brooom.

On the 1960s schoolbus.

Hang on Robin!

Enjoying the surprise guests.

Trying to have everyone look in the same direction is always a trick.

It's so warm today, that the pressure of the bicycle on the walking stick makes an impression in the asphalt.

Frustrating. Less then 400 miles to go. We need new rims once again. Numbers 10 and 11. Who would have thought we'd need so many new rims.

A late evening trip to the playground.

The J.B. Weld result.

Through the tunnel, under the train.

Jasmine can almost count the distance to Fairbanks on her fingers.

Riding on the rocks. There's no avoiding them.

One of the many rivers and creeks we cross.

Meet the Carlisles! Ever heard of the ice truckers? Well, here are the descendants!

We're almost to Willow. The restart point of the Iditarod dog sled race.

Tunnel time!

Fireweed and black spruce.

Blue sky behind the black spruce.

Sunset over Willow lake. It's 10pm in the evening. The sun is still over an hour away from setting.

A mother duck with her six ducklings. The little ones are great divers. Sometimes they all were under water at the same time.

The bike path ends suddenly in a gravel bed.

Thanks Fred and Laurie for your help!

Back to the road. We're getting quite accomplished gravel riders.

We're taking the Talkeetna spur.

Float planes are everywhere.

Yummy strawberry picking.

The Susitna river in Talkeetna is awaiting us.

Bill with one of our fans.

Cheyenne is taking it easy on the back of the bike.

In time to stop for the train.
